[Fishing] How to solo The Lurker Above (Fish Lurker Below in SSC)

  1. So, I got my attunement on how to fish Lurker solo 2 days ago (10/14), and I want to share with you. :)

You fish Lurker Below in Serpentshrine Cavern. If you haven't cleared any trash there, you will be attacked by Frenzies once you swim in the water there.

    What you will need:

    - Elixir of Water Walking
    - Noggenfogger Elixirs (bring a lot)

If you're a Mage, you can use Slow Fall instead of Noggenfogger, if you're a Priest, you can simply use Levitate.

Get to SSC (you'll need a raid group), you'll be here after taking 2 elevators.

Take the Water Walking Potion and start spamming Noggenfogger until you get the Slow Fall effect, then drop to the water. Why? Because, when you take a Water Walking potion, water will be treated as floor. And you'll drop from somewhere high enough to take fall damage, and remove the water potion effect. If you get to swim in the water, you're dead.

Once you land in the water, start walking to Lurker's platform.

Lurker's Platform looks like a debris with a giant shining pool on the center, you can see an overview here:

Beware to not fall in the water, Water Walking Potions bug a lot for me.

Here's the screenshot of me getting the achievement.

And that's it! Unlike fishing Gahzranka, you don't get saved to SSC if you fish Lurker. But be sure to fish it naked, or else you'll take some unwanted durability hits ^_^

Sorry for the bad english. Hope this is useful to you.

I am not sure if I am doing something wrong but when I tried I drank the potion then used my Skyguard cloak giving me slow fall but when I hit the water I didn't walk on it I fell through and the fish killed me. Any help?

  3. I used this method myself, and I used the same items, so I'm not sure what your issue is. I can only see a limited number of possibilities, though.

The point of the slow fall is to avoid fall damage. Any damage at all will break water walking. If you're popping the cloak too early, and you end up taking even one damage from the fall, you will end up in the drink, and the fish will spawn. However, I think the fall really isn't long enough for it to matter whether you hit the cloak early or late. Try it later in the fall, though, _after_ you a jump, a few seconds before you're going to hit the water. I don't think this is what killed you, but it's something to think about.

There are a few other possibilities, too. You could have simply gotten unlucky and hit a glitched spot. There seem to be some areas like that which are unfriendly to water walking down there. Since you supposedly sunk on contact, this probably isn't it.

You also could have strayed too close to the naga. It's very possible to aggro them if you don't jump to a far enough spot. They do have ranged attacks that will hit you and drop you into the water, even from their platforms. I died because of this on my first test run on the PTR. They might have popped you without you realizing it right as you hit the water.

There _are_ also some bugs with certain abilities that prevent this method from working sometimes. For instance, levitate is very questionable when trying to reach Lurker in SSC, but that's a buggy ability by itself. I watched a priest get eaten twice because of levitate bugs where she just spontaneously fell into the drunk (edit: drink. I think I was channeling Nat for a moment there :P). You said potion, though, so this probably isn't it.

This method also might have been hotfixed since I did it, but I seriously doubt that.

Lastly, there's one answer which you may not like: you simply ran into the water without realizing it. Water walking does not force you to stay above water. If your camera is at a sufficient downward angle, which is very likely on the downward jump used in this method, and you press forward, you will sink into the water even with water walking. So if you were holding the forward key while you jumped, you would end up popping right into the drink.

I think this covers just about everything. If any of this works, let me know.

Soooooooooooo, I did it with JUST water walking potion and that is it. The timing was really lucky/tricky. I jumped into the water and IMMEDITILY jumped back out and poped my water walking potion before the fish spawned. Took about 5 trys but I got it.

Gonna try this at the weekend (Undead Priest).

    Stupid questions time:

1] How do I get to Serpentshrine Cavern?

2] Can I start a Raid by myself or do I need another player?

    Thanks.

SSC is in Zangamarsh where the other instances are located ( Slave Pens, Underbog, Steamvaults). The instance is behind the waterfall straight ahead as you get out of the water. You need to have a raid group to enter the instance, which is a minimum group of two converted to a raid group. Hope this helps.

I just re did it today. It must have been my camera angle making me fall through the water. Thanks for the help. Need Pinchy now :(

Thanks for the guide! I managed to get the achievement completed on my mage with the help of your screenshots.

Thank you so much for this, I've been thinking how I was going to fish the lurker below when my guild didn't progress too far in terms of raiding. I'm going to give this a shot later on tonight. Thank you! :) :)

Thank you! While I've not tried this yet, this was one of the two parts of the achievements I was worried about -- I can keep fishing and try to get a Pinchy and the One that Got Away, but persistence doesn't get me into a raid for SSC, nor does it change the STV Extravaganza. This is one less roadblock in my path, hopefully. Thanks again!

Thanks for this works like a charm, just a quick note to say use your pots before you jump, I made the mistake of jumping and trying to use it (noob - I know) went though the water & was fish food.

Now just the one that got away left to get!

I just couldn't get the Water Walking elixir to work, no matter what I did I always ended up being fishfood. Even when standing on a pipe next to the water and just walking forward, I would go under.

So, I used Invisibility potions and Skyguard's Drape (10 sec. slow fall).

Got as close as I could to the first pack, and used the first Invisibility potion. Ran to the next platform, and just before the second pack I jumped off the left side towards the pipe that goes into the water. Landed on the pipe and had to wait for CD on Invivibility potion, before I could use another to swim to the next pipe, that comes out of the water and goes up to the platform above Lurker's platform. Waited for CD on Skyguard's Drape (yaaawn 20 min) then jumped down and landed on Lurkers platform.

You could have used that time to get closer to the 1000 fish achievement (If you aren't already there)!

I will also point out that it is currently the Halloween Holiday in the game - you might be able to get transformed into a Whisp or a Ghost from a wand or from random Trick or Treating. Whisps and Ghosts also have the ability to walk on water...so, something to consider as well.

I made a video showing how this is done solo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2GPZwpkwPg
