[Fishing] One That Didn't Get Away - achievement

  1. Been Fishing and Fishing.. in fact in my guild I have a sign up... "GONE FISHING" :)

after completed All fishing achivements dueable. I now have 2 objects

    1. Catching that big fish I saw swimming past the other day in Bay of Storms, I got his 2 smaller brothers that weighed 70 each.... not quite a 103 pounder.

    2. Catch Darkwood fishing pole..... "sposely same catchrate as rare fish"

    Wish me luck..... :)

No luck with this one so far

    Azshara Fishing Results
    ~1200 catches
    5 - 7 Pound Lobster
    4 - 9 Pound Lobster
    2 - 12 Pound Lobster
    1 - 19 Pound Lobster
    1 - 21 Pound Lobster
    2 - 70 Pound Mightfish

I will continue to update as I go. Some of the other posts say each pounder you get has an equal chance to be the highest weight, but I'm not so sure. I guess it could be bad luck, but I think the heavier ones really are more rare than the lighter ones.

So last night my guild's raid ended early so I decided to go to Stonebull Lake and try my luck. I fished for about an hour and only caught 2x10 lb mudsnappers. My wife, who just hit 375 fishing 2 days, ago decided to come down and fish with me and on her 8TH CAST she catches the 15 lb mudsnapper. I was in shock when I saw the achievement announcement pop up. I continued fishing for another 2 hours but only caught a 10lb and a 12lb.

After about 35 mudsnappers with either 12 or 10 pounds weight, I've finally caught a 15 pound mud snapper, total fish caught has been 2883 (doesn't include pots n stuff). It would seem this is highly RNG dependant, but.. somewhat doable (took me quite a lot of fishing).

I have spent about 8-9 hours at stonebull lake the last 3 days. I have caught atleast 5 12 pounders and double that many 10 pounders. Still no luck. If I wasn't doing this at work I think I would be going insane. :) Honestly, I hope they dont remove it. I think having certain things in the game that are very difficult to achieve is good. What does a title mean if anyone can get it?

PS Thank god for the bejeweled addon.

I'm up to 3300 fish caught at Stonebull Lake. I'm gonna take a break for a few days and do other stuff.

  7. 3000~ Casts in Helm's Bed Lake
    8 - 10 pound Mud snapper
    5 - 12 pound Mud snapper
    1 - 15 pound mud snapper

    >_<
took a damn while but finnaly got it

I've gone through a full season of Stargate: Atlantis and have yet to catch any of these ultra-rare fish. People are complaining about it in the official forums, but I agree with those who say it should stay.

  9. I tried stonebull lake, and got lucky after about 600 casts. I do hope they will change the droprates, 3000 casts isn't really healthy.

It's really annoying to me that i already caught the 15 pound mud snapper, but before the patch, and I haven't got credit for it.
Trying to catch it again, this time in Stonebull Lake. (got the first one in durotar)

  11. I've been putting off some other achievements to get this one done since it appears to be the most time consuming.

Yesterday I was making a comment in guild chat about how I had just hit the 3000 fish and other things caught mark. A friend of mine was fishing at the time too. He made a joke about how it'd be funny if he saw a rare fish before I did (can you see where this is going?). Not even 10 minutes later, he fishes up the 15 lb mud snapper. I couldn't believe my eyes! He was still leveling his fishing to 375 and had just barely hit the 250 fish mark. And here I am now at 3500 catches and still no rare...

I am at 1700 catches in Stonebull and 600 in Azshara (200 in misc. areas). I left Azshara because the offhand items appeared to be fished up a lot less frequently (though I have no idea if that's any indication of the lobster being rarer or not).

Good luck to everyone trying this. Hopefully your luck is a bit better than mine.

Well, after about 300 casts at Stonebull Lake, the 15 Pound Snapper is mine.

Got two 10 pounders and a ton of regular stuff.

Man I'm so happy. Sunday was Fishing Tournament win and Mr. Pinchy, Yesterday was 1k Fish, and today is this one.

Now for Old Crafty and Old Ironjaw!

*edit* 50 more casts in Org and I got Old Crafty! Puts it about 500 total, considering its where I leveled my fishing and I did about another 150-200 there, so maybe 600 or 700 total. I don't have a mod that keeps count

    Off to IF!

  13. Last night I went back to Stonebull Lake again (this time before raid) and fished for an hour, I ended up catching the 15 pounder about 5 min before our raid started. In total it took me about 3 hours and 400 casts, it took my wife about 5 minutes and 8 casts haha.

I wonder if they upped the rare fish %'s on Tuesday the 21st? Seems more peeps have caught in the last couple of days.

I just caught mine behind the inn in Goldshire in Crystal lake. I took the Halloween Quest: "Stop the Fires!", and was letting the level 10's put out the fires while I fished.

I caught a 15 Pound Mud Snapper during this time. LOL ... If you're Alliance, not a bad way to fish. Make 24 Gold on the two Halloween Quests while you fish. :-P

I have caught a total of 1588 Fish and Other things, and I'd say a good 90% of those casts were trying for this fish in various areas (Stonebull, Southshore, and Crystal Lake).

  15. thought I might add to the data for inquiring minds ... still no rare catch :(

    Hatera's Clutch
    -------------------------
    Darkclaw Lobster - 101
    Winter Squid - 66
    Large Raw Mightfish - 19
    Stonescale Eel - 14
    Big-Mouth Clam- 43
    9 lb lobster- 1

    Total - 244

Doesn't seem like much .. but this was over several hours of fishinf while occasionally doing other stuff .. seems like a very tough task to complete.

It seems to be 2500-5000 catches in Azshara from what achievers say. I'm gonna go to at least 5000. If I don't have it by then, I'll start over in Stonebull Lake. So far 1600 catches at the little cave in Bay of Storms with no luck on the 22 lobster or 103 mightfish. I would suggest going to Stonebull if you just started working on this one. I'm only staying because I've got a good data set going in Bay of Storms.

SO Some data.. I did the same cast, but prolly in a differnt time.. after 00.00 servertime ^^

look at the obvious difference in type of fish :)

    Darkclaw Lobster - 92
    Winter Squid - 23
    Large Raw Mightfish - 33
    Stonescale Eel - 54
    Big-Mouth Clam - 21
    9 lb lobster- 1
    Reinforced locked crate - 4
    Heavy crate - 1

So I reckon there is a bigger chance for catching that eluding 103 pounder at night's..

    or ??

You're assuming the drop rate on the ultra-rare 103 pound mightfish and 22 pound lobster are based on the drop rate of their lesser siblings. This is not necessarily true. If this were true the chance of catching the 22 pound lobster would be four times greater than that of the 103 pound mightfish since the lobsters are the most common drop. This is not the case according to data on this site and other sites including my own.

Also, keep in mind that the drop rates on other fish change during the day simply because those of the Stonescale Eel change. The other fish simply cover for the hole left over from the rate changes of the Eel. Therefore, the drop rate on ultra-rare fish would seem to be unaffected by the daily change in drop rates affected by the Stonescale Eels.

    That might be true! :)
But as a fisherman trying to catch a fish, I always look for pattern on how the fish walks
and when something is hard to catch, you somethimes grab for straws ^^
Since nowhere it states "Can only be caugth between such and such" to catch this whopper
    And I didn't asume, I merely hoped...
Anyway I am currently testing 3 timezones "for myself" to see if there is any reason to think like you..
    :)

Thanks for head up... always good to exchange fishing stories reallife or gamerlife ^^
